Many parents make mistakes when filling out the FAFSA information, including leaving some fields blank, spelling names wrong, and not entering social security numbers completely.Academic scholarships are highly competitive, and are usually awarded either by the admissions office, or individual academic departments. Student loans often carry an origination fee. Origination fees are a one-time charge based on the amount of the loan. Federal Direct Student Loans are funded by the US Treasury. Alternatively, student credit cards may seem like a good short-term solution, but the interest rates are high, and credit cards often carry an annual fee. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. While local churches or temples may not have the funding to provide scholarships, the organization's headquarters may have student scholarships available.
